Yay Band! [12 Sep 2007|03:39am]

Hey, my name is Jen Hoeneise, and unless any of you have siblings in their mid-20s then you won't know who I am. I graduated in 1999, I played euphonium and marched baritone, my special duty was making coffee for Mr. Popiel, lol. Shoot, do any of you even know who Mr. Popiel is??? He was the band director there the year I graduated, he started my junior year. When I started at Mott Mr. Baker was still the director, which was a shame because the man had long ago lost his passion for the job. In fact when I started I think there were only about 50 people in the entire band program, just concert and symphonic band; no jazz band or music theory classes or anything else. I understand from the letter I received about the homecoming band that there are 220 members now! I saw you in the Thanksgiving Day parade last year, you don't know how badly I wanted to march in that parade back in the day. Anyhow, I just wanted to know if anyone could give me more information on the alumini band for homecoming. Is there a BBQ beforehand or anything like that? Might I be able to get a tour of the band room? So much has changed at that school since I graduated, I'd really like to see it. Please somebody let me know.

Okay, so it's been a year since anybody posted. Even though I'm graduating...

What does everybody think of the Motown show?
(and could somebody tell me what songs he picked?)

New Marching Music [03 Jun 2006|12:17pm]

So what does everyone think of the new music we got?
I really like Sir. Duke. It's my favorite right now.

Another new year and we're gonna be seniors in band.
that's crazy if the other fellow soon-to-be seniors think about the first time when we did band camp how much admiration we had for the seniors.

I don't know how many people read this.. [15 Apr 2006|11:41pm]

Okay this is really bothering me.  Not just the pervious entry that Annie made, but I have been reading through Drum Major essays and people keep saying that there is chaos within marching band in general and all that stuff.  It just bothers me that people keep saying that there are problems, but they don't give examples.  I'm drum major and I feel like I can help to fix things, but I can't fix anything until I know what exactly people think is wrong.  So...now that I'm asking, what are some problems last season that I can bring to Mr Miller's attention so we can avoid them this upcoming marching season?

Marching for the middle and elementary school kids gives me such a great feeling. I feel like we inspire so many up coming musicians to stay in band! =) I was pleased with the performance at Grissom more so then the one at Beer though =/. What did every one think....and how do you think we could make our performances better (and more organized)?

5: East Detroit, away
6: Stevenson, away
7: L'anse Creuse, home

Sooo...our marching season ends kind of early, a little depressing but that's less practice time for us. And five away games...Fraser, East Detroit, Stevenson, Roseville and Sterling. Go pep band. ^_^

Good luck at festival this weekend, everyone!

I know wind ensemble and symphonic are well on their way to getting some pretty awesome scores this year...that's all I can speak for because those are the bands I'm in...but from what I've heard, everyone's worked pretty hard and I know it's going to pay off.

since we have finished marching season....their has not been much to talk about. But for the sake of input, how does everyone feel about each band's progression towards festivals and our upcoming concert? How does everyone think the season is going so far?

Leave your best experience from the Gator Bowl trip here!!!

I know mine was during our Competition performance when I looked up at Erik conduction and saw him with the biggest smile on his face, then looking over and Miller and Chisholm and seeing them staring at us with amazement and contentment! Not much could beat that. I miss the nights on bus 3 when we would laugh until we couldn't breathe also!!!

Well, guys...
the Gator Bowl is coming up in 6 days. Which is really creepy. I remember saying, "YAY Gator Bowl in 121 days!" but wow. It's really happening now and it's really coming soon.

So does everyone have their music memorized? There's just a few more measures in R&R I need to look over, so I think I'm going to be in good shape when we go down there. I don't know about you guys, but memorizing that song was kinda hard for me! I never have any trouble with show music, but this I did.

Don't forget: practice on Tuesday 12-27 from 2-4! And make sure you bring everything that needs to go on the truck unless you plan on coming back at 6.
I don't remember if this was on the sheet Mrs. Murchison just sent us in the mail, but don't forget your IDs/drivers licences either, we'll need them to get past security at the airport.

SEE YOU ALL TUESDAY!

I want the truth, weather it be good or bad. I want to know if people think that Richard Case (Chase) actually made the drumline sound better, or anything, like did he change the attitudes of the people on drumline, just tell me what you think! And be honest, I don't care!

On the bright side of the Gator Bowl topic...
Temperature in Orlando the day we get down there is supposed to be 75!
Our Jacksonville stay will be high 60's/low 70's!
YEAH!

What flights are everybody on?
I'm on the 2nd which sucks for me since I wish I could have more time in Downtown Disney.

In case no one read my comment under my last post....Is anyone interested in backing me up with asking Miller about an extra one or two practices during break? I think I'm going to ask him about it, but I need some trustworthy band members to enforce the idea.

:)
